My life started in a big emotional and colorful family, we were 9 people in a 3-room apartment. Back in Lithuania my mother used to waltz around humming the tunes of Spanish singer Lolita Flores’ so when I was born, naturally she wanted me to have that name. How I view the world now has clear roots from my childhood. The inspiration could come from those early mornings where the night meets the day, Grandpa’s gravelly voice saying: ”Loliandra let’s go to pick mushrooms”. Or the combination of floor washing and learning the tango from Grandma. As far as I can remember I have always been expressing myself creatively. I would steal my grandfathers oil paint and paint birds and patterns on the shelves in the closets, hoping that no one would notice. In the summers i would find clay in the nature, and
make pieces of jewelry for my mother and grandmother in all shapes and sizes.
And i haven't stopped since.
Drawing is a kind of meditation for me, without any struggle the images appear on the paper. In the end of my teenage years it was natural for me to enroll and finish in the Art Academy of Vilnius.
The stories comes from dreams and thoughts and everywhere around me, I put them on paper, on canvas or shape them in clay. If I didn’t, I think I would go crazy.
